  • Most premium and expensive

  • 6’7” wide rolls; standard 2.5mm thick, available in 3.5mm thick decibel control construction.

  • glue down installation with more strict subfloor requirements

  • Best for areas with more moisture.

  • Best for hospitals, schools, government buildings, retail stores, and offices.

  • Works well in a home basements, kitchens, laundry rooms, and accent rooms.

  • Over 300 colors

  • Patch repairs do not look great.

  • Most affordable

  • 1’x1’ squares or 1’x3’ panels

  • Floating installation reduces cost

  • Best for making cost effective patterns

  • Best for homes and small offices. Not recommend in full bathrooms.

  • Limited color palate compared to sheet.

  • Best for patterns, medium priced

  • MCT - 2mm thick, 13.11” x 13.11”

  • Modular has a stronger factory finish

  • Adhesive install

  • More cost effective than sheet, and easier to install, especially in patterns.

  • Best schools, retail stores, offices, and commercial spaces wanting patterns or the ability to replaced damaged tiles.

  • Limited color palate compared to sheet, but more than cinch loc. Modular has custom textures and colors.

  • Repairs are easiest, planks can be removed and replaced if they get damaged.

  • Yes! Although marmoleum scored #5 on our overall eco friendly comparison, it ranked in the top 3 for 3 categories. Marmoleum is a co2 neutral product, meaning Forbo removes as much carbon from the atmosphere as it produces.

    Although we ranked it #7 for VOC’s, this does not mean it off gasses harmful chemicals. Among the other flooring we ranked it against, it required chemical binders during manufacturing and install. However, marmoleum is independently certified for low chemical emissions through Indoor Air Comfort Gold, one of the world's most stringent indoor air quality standards. It has also earned certifications from Allergy UK, Blue Angel, Nordic Swan, and Greenguard. Also, the sustain 1195 adhesive, used to glue the sheet down, is zero VOC.

    • linseed oil, which comes from the flax plant seeds

    • wood flour from controlled forests and

    • jute, the natural backing onto which the linoleum is attatched.

    • The cinch loc seal has an HDF core made primarily of wood fiber.

  • No, but marmoleum sheet is highly water resistant; less than sheet vinyl and tile, but more than other hard surfaces. We ranked in it #2 in our comparison. Often used in hospital and schools, marmoleum sheet can handle frequent spills and cleanings. The key is to maintain the top finish coat to preserve its vibrant appearance.

    Cinch loc seal has a top layer of marmoleum, that is 2mm thick, just like the sheet. However, moisture can penetrate at the seams if left too long. The 5g click lock is amazing, and will keep spills out for generally 24 hours, but we recommend getting them up as soon as possible.

  • It has the most potential to be because it’s made of primarily raw materials. If processing at waste companies improves, marmoleum should eventually be recyclable. Right now, it’s likely not being recycled like cardboard, and glass.

  • Yes! The color is embedded 2mm deep, essentially giving marmoleum a wear layer. Small gouges can be fixed by experienced marmoleum mechanics. Then the floor can be buffed and several coats of Forbo Finish can be applied. Note, your floor will turn out glossier once the finish is applied. Also, this will not fix significant damage, such tears in the marmoleum.

  • Yes, it does not contain any PVC, phthalates, or other plasticizers. Almost all sheet vinyls do contain PVC, which if not well manufactured, will result in harmful off gassing.

  • There are many reasons, but to name a few, marmoleum can help new buildings qualify for leed credits. It’s eco friendly nature makes it a healthy choice for our children and patients alike. The vibrant colors and comfortable nature make for a floor that people love to walk on. If maintained properly, marmoleum can last 50 years or more. It’s color is embedded 2mm deep, so it hides surface scratches. The materials is highly water resistant, so building owners don’t have to worry about damage if they miss a spill, or if there’s lots of wet foot traffic. Finally, it’s bacteriostatic, meaning it stops bacteria from growing so any harmful cells can be cleaned up and stopped from spreading.
